exhibition · 2026-04-22

From November 7, 2011, to January 28, 2012, Luxembourg & Dayan will host a grisaille exhibition at its townhouse located on the Upper East Side. Featured on the ground floor is Glenn Brown's 1999 artwork Oscillate Wildly (After 'Autumnal Cannibalism' by Salvador Dali). The upper level displays Willem van de Velde the Elder's drawing A Dutch Harbor in Calm from the late 1640s, alongside pieces by artists such as Alex Katz, Christopher Wool, Alberto Giacometti, Carl Andre, Daniel Buren, Brice Marden, Robert Morris, and Betty Tompkins' Fuck Painting #4 (1972). This exhibition emphasizes the relevance of grisaille in conceptual art and includes works by Jasper Johns, Daniel Buren, Jeff Koons, Gerhard Richter, and John Currin. A catalogue will be available, marking its prior presentation in London.
