Grip Face and Miju Lee explore millennial anxieties in Mallorca residency
Artists Grip Face (David Oliver) and Miju Lee have completed a collaborative residency in Mallorca, resulting in the exhibition 'FAOS – Find An Offline Shelter,' which will open in May at Galerie Joseph in Paris. The show, supported by Colección SOLO and La BIBI Gallery, features large-scale multimedia works incorporating emojis, mirrors, fur, and pareidolic chats. The artists, who met on Instagram, address themes such as technology overuse, gender non-definition, anxiety, isolation, and the wonder of human relationships. Grip Face contributes eclectic post-punk masks reflecting inner conflicts, while Lee presents epic inner landscapes with alienated faces and her signature faceless yeti avatar, symbolizing people constantly online—a phenomenon intensified during the pandemic. The works were created cooperatively, often simultaneously, blending their distinct processes: Oliver more perfectionist, Lee more immersed in flow. The title 'Find An Offline Shelter' pays homage to the need for refuge from the productive nightmare of constant connection and the fragmentation of self into para-social relationships.
