GRGLT opens street-level window gallery in Turin's historic center

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Giorgio Galotti's GRGLT gallery in Turin is expanding with a new street-level window space in the historic center, near Piazza Carlina, housed in an 18th-century storefront. The window will function as a project room with autonomous programming, featuring site-specific works visible 24/7. The initiative, developed with young collector Andrea Pagliano, will host four seasonal exhibitions per year, opening on the 21st of March, June, September, and December. The first exhibition, starting September 21, 2017, features German artist Thomas Kratz (b. 1972, Waiblingen), who will present two large-scale monochrome portraits on the original windowpanes, exploring skin tone similarities to challenge racism. Kratz, a painter and performer based in Berlin and soon moving to Los Angeles, uses acrylic, pencil, marker, spray paint, and aluminum pigment. Galotti, who moved from Rome to Turin's Lingotto district and later to Barriera di Milano near the Museo Ettore Fico, conceived the window project as a low-cost model for emerging galleries to survive in a complex, high-expense art system.
