Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer dies at 69
Greg Lake, the singer, bassist, guitarist, and composer best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP) and earlier of King Crimson, died on December 7 at age 69 after a long battle with cancer. The announcement was made by the band's manager, Stewart Young, who called Lake his "best friend." Lake co-founded King Crimson with Robert Fripp, contributing vocals, bass, and production to their debut album "In the Court of the Crimson King." He then formed ELP with keyboardist Keith Emerson and drummer Carl Palmer in 1970, debuting at the Isle of Wight Festival. The band sold over 35 million records worldwide. Lake's song "Lucky Man," written while he was still in school, became a hit. Emerson had died by suicide in March 2016, ending any possibility of a reunion.
