Greg Jager on Art, Body, and Space: From Madrid to Rome
Greg Jager, a Rome-based visual artist born in 1982, trained as a graphic designer and now creates abstract works exploring human-environment relationships. After collaborations with MACRO, Palaexpo, Fendi, and Italian cultural centers worldwide, he returns to Rome in May with a Madrid-inspired project on performative influence. In September 2021, he participated in the Bitume Project residency in Ragusa, an ex-asphalt factory reopened after a decade, producing the series 'Dismantle' about a crumbling world. In Madrid, he joined the group show 'We dance, you mean' at Cerquone Projects, curated by Jordi Pallarès, inspired by Lucy Lippard's book. His installation 'About kinespheres and the possibility of something else' references Rudolf Laban's notation system and kinesphere concept, using two corrugated cardboard rolls with black graphic marks as a choreographic device. In Rome, his work 'Tiber Courtyard' on a basketball court, funded by a Lazio Region grant, engages with performativity and collective participation, involving local groups like All Reds Basket and Dominio Pubblico. In May, he will participate in IPER, a festival in Tor Bella Monaca organized by Palaexpo, creating a link between Madrid and Rome. Jager believes art and architecture must respond to planetary needs, asking 'How will we occupy this new space?'
