Greece's Summer Art Scene: New Exhibitions and Island Retreats

This summer, Greece is garnering significant attention from the art community with a variety of new exhibitions and cultural spaces. The George Economou Collection in Athens is hosting its inaugural group exhibition titled "The Way We Live Now," showcasing artists such as Rashid Johnson, David Hammons, Jenny Saville, Lorna Simpson, David Hockney, Lucas Arruda, Charles Ray, Katharina Fritsch, and Louise Bourgeois. In Ano Petralona, the Alkinois gallery features a solo show of sculptures and paintings by Zoë Paul. Piraeus welcomes Castor Place, a refurbished 19th-century warehouse by architect Andreas Kostopoulos, unveiling "Casting Water" with works by Stefania Strouza. The group exhibition "Un Été à Hydra" on Hydra includes designs and art from international talents like Jeanne Chardin and Nikos Zantidis. Mykonos introduces new luxury resorts, Semeli Coast Resort, crafted by Pavlos Ninios, and Fouquet's at Paraga Beach. Additionally, DEO Projects on Chios organizes an annual group exhibition with artists including Danh Võ, Cindy Sherman, Arda Asena, Lito Kattou, Eleni Odysseos, Shezad Dawood, Evi Kalogiropoulou, and Vasilis Papageorgiou. Founder Akis Kokkinos emphasizes that the exhibition seeks to foster solidarity in regions impacted by last year’s wildfires.
