Grazia Toderi and Orhan Pamuk's Cosmic Collaboration at MART Rovereto

The MART museum in Rovereto hosts 'Words and Stars', an exhibition merging the video art of Grazia Toderi (born 1963 in Padua) with the literary vision of Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk (born 1952 in Istanbul). The show, following a preview in Turin, explores cosmic visions and the sensation of infinity, tracing back to humanity's earliest questions about existence. The collaboration originated from Pamuk's novel 'The Museum of Innocence' and his encounter with Toderi's work 'Orbite Rosse' at the 2009 Venice Biennale. A preview was presented at Artissima 2016 in Turin, at the Planetario di Pino Torinese and Palazzo Madama. The exhibition features three video installations—a monologue, a dialogue, and a conversation—comprising eight projections. In the monologue, black and white emphasize typographic writing; the dialogue shifts to blue and turquoise tones as a star approaches; the third installation, with five projections arranged in a pentagon, shifts toward red as the star recedes. The works associate celestial landscapes with the night lights of Istanbul, with text scrolling like a musical score. Sound, integral to Toderi's work, evokes the sea, wind, and airplanes, projecting inner reality into space.
