Grayson Perry's life story to become 'outrageous' stage musical
Grayson Perry's life story is being adapted into a stage musical titled 'Grayson the Musical,' co-created with Richard Thomas, composer of 'Jerry Springer: The Opera.' The show will follow Perry from his childhood in Chelmsford to international fame as a Turner Prize-winning ceramicist and tapestry-maker, featuring his teddy bear Alan Measles. Perry wrote the lyrics, with music by Thomas and book by Sara-Ella Ozbek. Directed by Sean Foley, the production is billed as an 'irreverent odyssey' exploring identity, creativity, and self-acceptance. Five workshop performances will run from July 16 to 19 at Soho Theatre Walthamstow in east London, where Perry once kept a studio and created 'The Walthamstow Tapestry.' Perry previously told his life story in the 2006 book 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl' and toured a stage show 'Are You Good?' last year.
