Graphic Novel on Tina Modotti by Ivo Milazzo Released by Edizioni NPE

Ivo Milazzo, the Italian comic artist known for creating the 'bonelliano' character Ken Parker, has published a graphic novel about photographer Tina Modotti titled 'Tina o Maria. Riflessioni di una vita' with Edizioni NPE. The project, conceived nearly twenty years ago, was finally brought to light in 2021. The volume traces Modotti's human and creative journey, from her travels in South America to her social photography, her encounter with Edward Weston, and her friendship with Frida Kahlo and the muralists of the 'new' Mexico. Milazzo, a master of watercolor, focuses on the human being before artistic and political aspects, portraying Modotti as a mysterious, determined, and talented woman. Modotti, born in Udine in 1896, emigrated to the United States and later moved to Mexico in 1923, where she became an icon of freedom through photography and civil engagement. Despite her famous works being in prestigious museums, her life remains shrouded in mystery due to scarce reliable information about her creative career, political activity, and unexpected death in a taxi in Mexico City in 1942.
