Graphic novel on Francis Bacon's life and work due September 19
A new graphic novel titled "Francis Bacon – La violenza di una rosa" by Cristina Portolano will be released on September 19 by Centauria. The 128-page book, priced at €19.90, uses four colors from Bacon's palette—mauve, red, acid yellow, and blue—to illustrate the Irish painter's life from his troubled childhood to his artistic breakthrough in 1944 with the triptych "Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion." Portolano, born in Naples in 1986, describes her research process: she first documented Bacon's life, then selected key moments to depict, and finally created the comic. She was inspired after visiting the Dublin City Gallery – The Hugh Lane.
