Graphic Designer Todd Huynh Creates Lunar New Year Red Envelope Illustrations Featuring Fortune Guardians

Graphic designer Todd Huynh, based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, created a series of illustrations for Lunar New Year red envelopes featuring the Four Fortune Guardians. The project was published on February 11, 2021, just before the Lunar New Year celebration on February 12, 2021. Huynh's concept draws from traditional Asian beliefs that decorating homes with specific items during the new year brings good fortune for the entire year. These items include kumquat trees, ceramic vases, wind chimes, and feng shui coin knots. The designer shared his work on Behance, encouraging followers to view his take on the cultural tradition. Red envelopes containing money are given during Lunar New Year in many Asian cultures to symbolize wishes for health, prosperity, and wealth. The 2021 celebration occurred during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which affected traditional observances but didn't eliminate the importance of maintaining cultural practices. Huynh emphasized the significance of passing traditions to younger generations as part of cultural education and legacy preservation.
