Graphic designer creates branding for unrecognized Liberland
Alessandro Casciaro, a graphic design student at ISIA Urbino, has developed a comprehensive visual identity for the Free Republic of Liberland, an unrecognized micronation claimed by Czech activist Vit Jedlicka in 2015 on a 7-square-kilometer territory between Serbia and Croatia. The project includes a new flag (blue-white-green tricolor), lettering, diplomatic documents, banknotes, stamps, signage, and merchandise. Casciaro's reward is Liberland citizenship, the first granted to an Italian, possibly accompanied by a passport he designed. Liberland, based on radical libertarian ideals with minimal laws and voluntary taxation, remains unrecognized internationally and has no inhabited buildings. In 2016, a sustainable urbanization competition was won by a USA-UAE collective proposing an algae-based, carbon-free city for over 340,000 residents.
