Granada Form's ADU Doubles as Neighborhood Coffee Shop in Los Angeles
Based in Los Angeles, Granada Form is a creative partnership between musician and designer Sydney Wayser and architect John Isaac Watters. Previously, the couple resided in a 1939 duplex in Angelino Heights, but they have since relocated to the rear of the property, where they created an accessory dwelling unit (ADU). This two-story building features their living space on the upper level, while the downstairs living room operates as a coffee shop from Wednesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. With California's new Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) permit, which permits home cooks to run small restaurants, the innovative use of ADUs for both residential and commercial purposes may become increasingly prevalent.
