Gran Turismo film adaptation tells true story of GT Academy with Orlando Bloom

Neill Blomkamp directs 'Gran Turismo', a Sony Pictures film based on the Polyphony Digital racing video game series. The movie follows Jann Mardenborough (played by Archie Madekwe), a gamer who becomes a real race car driver through the GT Academy, a television talent show co-organized by Nissan and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Running from 2008 to 2016, the competition selected top Gran Turismo players to compete in real-world races after training, with some participants like Mardenborough becoming professional drivers. The film features stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Djimon Hounsou, and Geri Halliwell. Originally announced in 2013 focusing on first winner Lucas Ordonez, the project was revived in 2022. Blomkamp, known for 'District 9' and 'Chappie', brings his passion for video games to the adaptation. The movie arrives in Italian cinemas on September 20, 2023, following the success of Sony's 'The Last of Us' TV series and Nintendo's 'Super Mario Bros.' film, capitalizing on renewed cinematic interest in racing stories.
