Graham Fagen to Represent Scotland at 2015 Venice Biennale with New Works on Trade History

exhibition · 2026-04-20

At the 2015 Venice Biennale, Graham Fagen will showcase Scotland's collateral event within four rooms at Palazzo Fontana, marking the first time this venue hosts a Biennale exhibition. Fagen is developing new pieces, including sculptures, drawings, and an audio/visual installation that explores the social and political dimensions of trade. He expresses pride in representing Scotland, emphasizing that participation is by invitation only. Fagen believes that art should reach diverse audiences, reflecting on past criticisms from Damien Hirst and Keith Allen. He admires Jimmie Durham's 2003 piece and anticipates Joan Jonas's presentation at the American Pavilion, as well as Okwui Enwezor's 'Parliament of Forms.' The exhibition is curated by Hospitalfield and organized by Creative Scotland, National Galleries of Scotland, and the British Council.
