Grafton Architects Wins EU Mies Award 2022 for Kingston University Town House
Grafton Architects, established by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, received the EU Mies Award 2022 for their Town House located at Kingston University in London. This brutalist structure, which accommodates a dance school and library, garnered acclaim from the jury led by Tatiana Bilbao for its outstanding environmental quality and its remarkable environment for both study and community engagement. Notably, this is the first time a university building has achieved this honor. Competing against 532 nominations, the Town House also previously earned the RIBA Stirling Prize 2021 and the silver medal at the International Prize for Sustainable Architecture, among other accolades. La Borda by Lacol was awarded the Emerging Architect Prize. The award ceremony is scheduled for May 12 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.
