Goya documentary 'L'ombra di Goya' premieres on Sky Arte
The documentary film 'L'ombra di Goya' debuts on Sky Arte on Thursday, November 21, after its premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival and a theatrical run. Directed by José Luis López-Linares, who also directed the hit 'Bosch. Il giardino dei sogni', the film was written by Jean-Claude Carrière and Cristina Otero Roth. It features contributions from twelve specialists, including an otolaryngologist who traces the effects of Goya's deafness in his paintings. The documentary explores key locations in Goya's life: Zaragoza, where he spent his childhood and developed an interest in art, Madrid, and Bordeaux. López-Linares states that one of the film's goals is to explain as faithfully as possible how Goya's deafness changed his life and art. Goya lived from 1746 to 1828, experiencing the transition between old and new European orders due to the French Revolution, and incorporated fantastic creatures and rebellious spirit into his works. Masterpieces featured include 'Colossus', 'Maja vestida', 'Maja desnuda', 'The Third of May 1808', 'The Family of Charles IV', and 'Saturn Devouring His Son'.
