Goya and Grosz Exhibition Opens in Parma

The exhibition 'GOYA – GROSZ Il sonno della ragione' opens at Palazzo Pigorini in Parma from September 23, 2022 to January 13, 2023. Curated by Didi Bozzini and Ralph Jentsch, it juxtaposes Francisco Goya (1746–1828) and George Grosz (1893–1953), two artists separated by 150 years but united by a raw, satirical style. The show features all eighty etchings from Goya's 'Caprichos' (1799) and works from 'The Disasters of War', alongside Grosz's Dada-era paintings like 'A Piece of My World II/The Last Battalion' (1938). The title references Goya's self-portrait and 'Capricho 43 – El sueño de la razon produce monstruos'. The exhibition explores caricature as a tool to reveal societal absurdities. Parma mayor Michele Guerra noted the works' enduring relevance, as the vices depicted by both artists persist today. The show spans two floors of Palazzo Pigorini.
