Goro to open cultural center dedicated to Milva, aimed at youth engagement

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The municipality of Goro, in the province of Ferrara, is launching a cultural center dedicated to the memory of Italian singer and actress Milva (Ilva Maria Biolcati), who died a year ago. The center will be housed in a building acquired by the municipality, adjacent to the library and municipal theater in the historic square already named after Milva. The project is funded by 1,550,000 euros from the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) and supported by Martina Corgnati, Milva's daughter and a well-known art critic, who donated materials to form the initial collection. The collection includes photographic portraits by Giampaolo Barbieri, Paola Mattioli, Marco Caselli, and works by artists Maria Mulas and Agnese Purgatorio. The center will feature a listening point with Milva's discography and a library of books she cherished. It aims to address local youth dropout rates, where children leave school at 13 to harvest clams and engage in non-educational activities. Corgnati hopes the center will inspire youth to pursue culture and learning, following Milva's example of transforming natural talent into cultural proposals. The center will be managed by the municipality's culture department with Corgnati's ongoing support.
