Googlebooks: Android Laptops with Gemini AI Launching This Year

other · 2026-05-12

Google is launching a new line of Android-powered laptops called Googlebooks later this year, shifting focus from Chromebooks. The devices are designed from the ground up with Gemini Intelligence, featuring a Magic Pointer cursor that activates a full-screen Gemini experience when wiggled. The AI can see the screen to make contextual suggestions and pull data from multiple apps. Demos show Magic Pointer selecting images to combine with Nano Banana, or suggesting calendar appointments by pointing at dates in emails. Magic Cue, previously on Pixel phones, will also be included, recommending actions based on messages and emails. Google insists Chromebooks remain, but the company's focus has moved to Googlebooks.
