Google unveils Gemini Spark, an agentic AI assistant with deep Gmail integration

ai-technology · 2026-05-19

At the I/O developer conference on Tuesday, Google introduced Gemini Spark, a cutting-edge personal assistant built on Gemini base models and powered by an agentic harness from Google Antigravity. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, described Spark as a significant advancement in digital assistants, capable of handling long-term tasks with little oversight thanks to its agentic AI. It runs on dedicated virtual machines in Google Cloud, so users don’t need to keep their laptops on. Spark stands out by integrating effortlessly with Google services like Gmail and Google Docs. Users can email Spark directly, and it utilizes Chrome for web interactions. The new Android Halo system allows users to track progress on mobile. Currently being tested, Spark will launch for Google AI Ultra subscribers next week.
