Google unveils 'Create My Widget' for Android with Gemini AI

digital · 2026-05-12

Google announced a new 'Create My Widget' feature for Android on Tuesday, allowing users to generate custom widgets using natural language via Gemini AI. The feature will debut this summer on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. Users can describe desired widgets, such as a meal prep dashboard or a weather widget showing only wind and rain. Gemini can also pull data from the web and Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to create personalized dashboards, e.g., a family reunion planner for Berlin with flight details, restaurant reservations, and a countdown. Ben Greenwood, Director of Android Core Experiences, described it as asking a personal assistant for repeated answers. The announcement accompanied the unveiling of Gemini Intelligence, which includes advanced autofill and AI-powered voice dictation for Gboard.
