Google Search adds AI tools for garden planning and plant care

digital · 2026-05-06

Google has introduced five gardening features in Search, leveraging AI to help users visualize layouts, create planting schedules, source supplies, and diagnose plant problems. The tools respond to rising trends in "chaos gardens" and mini gardens, as shown by Google Trends data: searches for "chaos flower garden" first broke out in 2025 and peaked again in 2026, while "how to start a chaos garden" rose 140% this spring and "chaos garden seeds" doubled. "Mini garden" searches hit an all-time high in 2026, and "tabletop garden" reached a 15-year high. The features include AI Mode for visualizing gardens via uploaded photos, Canvas for generating year-long planting plans, AI Mode for designing chaos gardens, Shopping filters to find local nursery inventory, and Search Live for real-time plant diagnosis using the camera. The tools are available in Google Search and the Google app.
