festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Google's Tilt Brush, a digital tool for 3D painting in virtual reality, launches at Art Basel Hong Kong from March 21 to 25, 2017, as part of the project 'Virtual Frontiers: Artists Experimenting With Tilt Brush.' Artists including Cao Fei, Robin Rhode, boychild, Sun Xun, and Yang Yongliang participated in residencies in Beijing and Paris to master the technology. The works, viewable via Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets, are presented in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture. Art Basel director Marc Spiegler stated the partnership expands the fair's digital focus. A Conversations panel will feature Cao Fei and Yang Yongliang with Freya Murray of Google Arts & Culture, discussing virtual reality art-making and Tilt Brush's impact on artistic practice.
