Google’s Gemini AI assistant rolling out to millions of vehicles

On Thursday, Google revealed that its Gemini AI assistant will start being introduced in vehicles equipped with Google built-in, enhancing the existing Google Assistant. This announcement follows General Motors' disclosure that Gemini will be available in around 4 million cars from the 2022 model year and later, covering brands like Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC. Notably, Google did not specify particular automakers, suggesting that Gemini's availability will extend beyond GM. The initial rollout will occur in the U.S. with support for English, with plans for broader expansion in the coming months. Existing compatible vehicles can receive Gemini through software updates. Launched in 2020, cars with Google built-in will benefit from Gemini's capabilities, enabling drivers to engage in more natural conversations, request lunch recommendations based on specific criteria, and utilize Google Maps for suggestions, parking inquiries, and task management like adjusting heat, providing directions, recommending music, summarizing messages, and facilitating hands-free replies. Additionally, the beta version of Gemini Live allows for open-ended conversations initiated by a button or the phrase "Hey Google, let's talk." Drivers logged into Google accounts in compatible cars will receive prompts to upgrade. Google aims to broaden language support and regional availability while enhancing integration with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Home.
