Google's 2023 Most Searched Museums: Louvre Tops, No Italian Museums in Top 10

Google's Year in Search 2023 ranking of the most searched museums on Google Maps places the Louvre in Paris first, the British Museum in London second, and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris third. The top ten includes the Natural History Museum (London), teamLab Planets (Tokyo), Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), Museo Nacional del Prado (Madrid), Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam), American Museum of Natural History (New York), and Anne Frank House (Amsterdam). No Italian museums appear. teamLab Planets, an immersive digital art museum opened in 2016 by the teamLab collective, ranks fifth. Originally intended as a temporary experience closing in 2020, its popularity has extended its run through 2027. It features a digital pond where animated carp explode into flowers when touched, a room of luminous spheres, and an environment for interacting with "solidified light." The American Museum of Natural History is the sole U.S. representative globally; the Metropolitan Museum of Art is absent even from the U.S. national ranking. In the U.S. list, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum tops, followed by the Getty Museum (Los Angeles), Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Ark Encounter (Williamstown, Kentucky), Whitney Museum, and Intrepid Museum.
