Google Releases Android CLI for AI Agent App Coding
During the Google I/O developer conference, Google revealed that the Android CLI (command-line interface) has reached a stable version 1.0. This advancement allows AI agents such as Claude Code, OpenAI's Codex, and Google's own Antigravity and Gemini to enhance the Android app development process within Android Studio. The tool introduces a new command, "android studio," enabling AI agents to access Android development information and utilize Android Studio's features. Additionally, Google Antigravity will offer an optional package for installing Android CLI tools. This initiative reflects the increasing reliance on non-Google AI agents for Android development, thereby making Google's specialized expertise more readily available.
