Google Meet Speech Translation Rolls Out to Mobile

other · 2026-04-27

Google Meet's speech translation feature is now rolling out to mobile devices. The feature allows two people speaking different languages to converse, with Meet translating speech into the listener's preferred language and repeating it in a rough imitation of the original speaker's voice. Currently supporting English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Italian, the feature is still in an early alpha stage. It worked successfully between two laptops but failed between an iPhone and an iPad. Simon Willison reported encountering the feature via a prompt on April 27, 2026.
