Google Maps Christo's Floating Piers on Lake Iseo for Street View
Google, in collaboration with the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia and the municipality of Sulzano, is mapping Christo's temporary installation "The Floating Piers" on Lake Iseo using Street View technology. The mapping began on June 30, 2016, using a Trekker backpack with 15 cameras and a Tripod with a high-resolution camera to capture the 3-kilometer pedestrian walkway covered in 70,000 square meters of yellow fabric. The images will be available online after processing. Claudio Monteverde, Google's Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Manager, stated that the company aims to democratize culture and art through technology. The installation, which opened on June 18, 2016, will be dismantled after July 3. Other works by Christo and Jeanne-Claude are already available on the Google Cultural Institute platform.
