Google launches Gemini for Science with AI tools for researchers

ai-technology · 2026-05-19

Google has unveiled Gemini for Science, a collection of AI-driven tools and experiments designed to enhance the pace of scientific research. This assortment features three experimental prototypes available on Google Labs: Hypothesis Generation (developed with Co-Scientist), Computational Discovery (created with AlphaEvolve and Empirical Research Assistance), and Literature Insights (developed with NotebookLM). These innovations aim to facilitate hypothesis creation, computational experimentation, and literature review. Furthermore, Google has rolled out Science Skills, a tailored package that includes over 30 life science databases and tools such as UniProt, AlphaFold Database, AlphaGenome API, and InterPro, accessible through Google Antigravity. Enterprise versions are offered via Google Cloud, with partners like BASF, Klarna, Daiichi Sankyo, Bayer Crop Science, and the U.S. National Labs already utilizing them. Validation papers for ERA and Co-Scientist were published in Nature, and Google is partnering with more than 100 institutions, including Stanford University, Imperial College London, and The Crick Institute. Access to the experiments is being gradually released at labs.google/science.
