Google Brings AI Overviews to Gmail for Workplace Users

During the Google Cloud Next conference on Wednesday, Google revealed that its AI Overviews feature, which was previously accessible for Search and Gmail users with AI Pro/Ultra subscriptions, is now being introduced for business, enterprise, and educational Gmail users. This feature employs AI to condense email content, enabling users to pose questions in natural language and obtain brief responses without the need to read through each email. It can pull information regarding performance enhancements, project milestones, invoices, feedback on presentations, travel details, and more from various emails and discussions. AI Overviews will be automatically activated if Gemini for Workspace and Workspace Intelligence access to Gmail are enabled, alongside the requirement for users to have "Smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet" and "Google Workspace smart features" activated. The feature is accessible across Business Starter/Standard/Plus, Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, Frontline Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education plans. Furthermore, Google has extended AI Overviews in Drive to eligible Workspace and Google AI plans following a beta testing phase. This initiative underscores the increasing incorporation of AI into productivity applications, despite varying user preferences.
