Google Arts & Culture Launches Two New AI-Powered Art Apps

Google Arts & Culture has launched two new apps, Art Filter 2 and Art Remix, both leveraging generative AI to transform user photos and interactions with art. Art Filter 2, an update to the 2020 Art Filter, allows users to take selfies (individual or group) and choose backgrounds from masterpieces like Rembrandt's The Night Watch, Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, and Monet's garden. Art Remix uses Google's AI image model to let users remix artworks by modifying or adding text to the description of pieces such as Monet's The Water-Lily Pond and Bruegel the Elder's Children's Games, generating new versions in seconds. The platform continues its long-standing collaborations with international museums, including the British Museum, for which it has made special content, stories, and anecdotes about the Maya collection available, enriched with virtual reality tours of the ancient Maya sites of Palenque and Chichen Itza in Mexico. In 2021, Google Arts & Culture also launched a virtual exhibition dedicated to Gustav Klimt, featuring masterpieces like The Kiss and lesser-known works such as the Faculty Paintings, lost during World War II.
