Google Arts & Culture launches largest online retrospective of Leonardo da Vinci
Google Arts & Culture has unveiled 'Svelare Leonardo' (Revealing Leonardo), the largest online retrospective ever dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, from the Sala Balla of Milan's Castello Sforzesco. The digital hub brings together over 1,300 pages of Leonardo's Codices for the first time, spanning mathematics, astronomy, geometry, physics, optics, and architecture. It includes a video by Maxime Causeret, illustrations by South African artist Natalie Paneng, 3D models of his inventions, and an AI-powered section 'Inside the Genius Mind' curated by Professor Martin Kemp. Users can also create their own compositions in 'Da Vinci Stickies'. The project involves 28 international partners including the British Library (London), National Gallery (Washington), Musei Reali (Turin), Castello Sforzesco, Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia, and Pinacoteca Ambrosiana (Milan). Milan's culture councilor Tommaso Sacchi emphasized the city's deep connection to Leonardo, who lived there longest and left masterpieces like the Last Supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Sala delle Asse at Castello Sforzesco, and the Codice Atlantico. Google Arts & Culture director Amit Sood stated that the initiative makes expert-curated stories and interactive visualization experiences accessible globally, honoring Leonardo's legacy as a pioneer of art, science, and innovation.
