Google Arts & Culture digitizes Milan Cathedral with 500+ images and 50+ stained glass windows
Google Arts & Culture has launched Milan Cathedral: Remixed, a digital project in collaboration with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, the institution that has overseen the cathedral for 635 years. The interactive platform features over 500 images and more than 50 digitized stained glass windows, allowing users to explore the cathedral's architecture and hidden details from home. The project includes virtual tours of corridors and naves, and highlights details previously inaccessible to the public. Fedele Confalonieri, president of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, noted that writers such as Percy Bysshe Shelley, Hans Christian Andersen, and Mark Twain were inspired by the cathedral's stained glass light. The initiative is part of Google Arts & Culture's ongoing educational mission, following projects on Gustav Klimt and the Getty Museum's jewelry collection. The Duomo di Milano is the third largest Gothic cathedral in Europe, standing 108.5 meters tall, built of pink marble.
