Goodbye Marilyn animated short premieres at Venice Film Festival 2018

At the 75th Venice International Film Festival, Maria di Razza presented her animated short film 'Goodbye Marilyn,' which imagines Marilyn Monroe surviving the fatal night of August 4, 1962, and granting an interview after fifty years of silence. The film explores themes of distance, mystery, and the construction of myth, featuring a Monroe who is lucid and self-aware. The animation uses a limited palette of black and purple, with visual references to Andy Warhol's paintings and Monroe's iconic white dress. The short is based on the comic of the same name by Francesco Barilli and Roberta 'Sakka' Sacchi, published by Becco Giallo. The voice of Monroe is provided by Maria Pia Di Meo, the historic Italian voice of Meryl Streep, Audrey Hepburn, and Julie Andrews, while journalist Gianni Canova, a film critic and rector of IULM University, voices the interviewer. The film was screened during the Venice Film Festival in 2018.
