Gonzalo Borondo's 'Matière Noire' Transforms Marseille Flea Market
Spanish street artist Gonzalo Borondo (b. 1989, Valladolid) has created his largest exhibition to date inside a former shipbuilding hangar at Marseille's Marché aux Puces. Titled 'Matière Noire' and running until January 31, 2018, the project is supported by Galerie Saint Laurent and involves eight other artists: BRBR FILMS, Carmen Main, Diego Lopéz Bueno, Edoardo Tresoldi (b. 1987, Milan), Isaac Cordal, Robberto Atzori, Sbagliato, and A.L. Crego. Curated by Carmen Main, the collective transformed the space over a three-month residency, using discarded objects to create site-specific works across 20 shops and the entire upper floor. A centerpiece is 'Chandelier,' an anamorphic installation of 250 serigraphs on acetate that reassemble into a crystal chandelier from a single viewpoint. Marseille, European Capital of Culture in 2013, will host the itinerant biennial Manifesta in 2020.
