Gomide & Co inaugurates new São Paulo gallery with Lenora de Barros exhibition and urban-focused architecture
Gomide & Co opens its new 600-square-meter gallery on March 8 at Avenida Paulista 2644 in São Paulo, marking its third and largest location in the city. The inaugural exhibition 'Não vejo a hora' features 12 new works by artist Lenora de Barros exploring time, language, and the body, including a LED panel on the 150-meter facade facing Angélica. Designed by AR Arquitetos (Marina Acayaba, Juan Pablo Rosenberg, Ana Flavia Piacentini) with lighting by Fernanda Carvalho, the architecture emphasizes urban gentility with visual permeability, natural light, and an external staircase doubling as public seating. Gallery founder Thiago Gomide highlights the space's ability to house both exhibitions and the gallery's secondary market inventory, including works by León Ferrari, Mira Schendel, Lygia Clark, Sergio Camargo, and Antonio Dias. The new location in the retrofitted Edifício Rosa, also designed by AR Arquitetos, features a 5-meter double ceiling for large-scale works. Recent institutional changes include Luisa Duarte joining as artistic director to expand the primary artist program from eight to twenty, and former MASP director Fabio Frayha becoming a partner. The gallery now joins São Paulo's cultural corridor alongside Japan House, Sesc Avenida Paulista, Itaú Cultural, MASP, and Instituto Moreira Salles.
