Gómez Platero unveils four polyhedral skyscrapers for former Miami Herald site

Uruguayan architecture studio Gómez Platero has proposed Miami Bay Towers, a mixed-use development on the waterfront site of the former Miami Herald building in Miami. The scheme features four irregularly shaped, polyhedral skyscrapers with residential units, a hotel, restaurants, bars, and a spa. The site, sold for $1.2 billion in 2023, was once home to a 1960s Miami Modern building demolished in 2014. Former mayor Francis Suarez called it "the most valuable piece of property in America." The towers have chunky geometric bases, cantilevers, and setbacks creating an angular silhouette. A commercial walkway connects the towers and links to Pérez Art Museum Miami via a pedestrian passage under the highway. The development includes a marina extending into Biscayne Bay. Designed for phased construction, two towers at a time, the project aims to optimize logistics and profitability. Gómez Platero previously designed a COVID-19 memorial off Uruguay's coast.
