Golnaz Fathi's Illegible Scripts at October Gallery
October Gallery in London presents 'No rain will put out this fire', a solo exhibition of new paintings by Iranian artist Golnaz Fathi. Fathi, one of few women trained to the highest level in traditional Persian calligraphy, has deliberately abandoned legibility in her latest works. Her canvases feature black script-like marks on white backgrounds, overwritten and layered until they become abstract blocks. She adds bright primary hues—red, blue, chrome yellow—creating vibrant contrasts that evoke emotions and relationships. Fathi states the scripts are intended to be utterly illegible, challenging viewers to intuit meaning beyond language. The exhibition runs at October Gallery.
