Golinelli Opens New Art and Science Center in Bologna with 'Imprevedibile' Exhibition
Marino Golinelli, the indefatigable collector, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, opens a new art and science center in Bologna on October 11, 2017, designed by Mario Cucinella. The inaugural exhibition, 'Imprevedibile, essere pronti per il futuro senza sapere come sarà' (Unpredictable, being ready for the future without knowing what it will be like), curated by Cristiana Perrella and Giovanni Carrada, opens on October 13 and runs until February 4, 2018. The show features around twenty international artists including Ai Weiwei, Martin Creed, Christian Jankowski, Yinka Shonibare, Superflex (also at Tate Modern's Turbine Hall), Atelier Van Lieshout, and Italians Elena Mazzi, Sara Tirelli, Flavio Favelli, and Martino Gamper. The exhibition is the culmination of a long-term project by Fondazione Golinelli, which since 2010 has produced seven nomadic exhibitions at venues like Triennale and MAMbo, pairing contemporary artworks with scientific exhibits. Perrella explains that 'Imprevedibile' focuses not on visions of the future but on how to face it without fear, touching on data collection, climate change, and tradition versus innovation. Atelier Van Lieshout presents 'Cow of the Future' and 'Food Reaktor,' envisioning tribal self-sufficient societies. The new permanent venue, Centro Arti e Scienze Golinelli at Opificio Golinelli, ends the nomadic phase due to growing public engagement.
