Goldsmiths Center for Contemporary Art Opens September 2018
The Goldsmiths Center for Contemporary Art (CCA) will open on September 8, 2018, on the campus of Goldsmiths, University of London. The 1,000 m² space, converted from the Victorian-era Laurie Grove Baths by the Turner Prize-winning collective Assemble, includes 700 m² of gallery space across eight rooms. Sarah McCrory, appointed director in January 2017, will curate exhibitions. The Oak Foundation Project Space in the building's center will host a flexible program integrating shows, performances, and academic projects. The inaugural exhibition features Mika Rottenberg (September 8–November 4, 2018) with two new commissions created in collaboration with Kunsthaus Bregenz and MAMbo. Subsequent shows include Kris Lemsalu (November 23, 2018–February 3, 2019), a posthumous exhibition of Alexis Hunter, and the first London show of the Chicago Imagists in March 2019. McCrory stated, "We hope to find a new path: London already has so many amazing institutions!" and noted the potential to collaborate with the university's 9,000 students and top faculty.
