Goldsmiths CCA shuts down after two-week student occupation over Palestine demands
The Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art will remain closed until October because of a two-week protest led by Goldsmiths for Palestine. The student activists are demanding that Goldsmiths University stop its supposed support of Israeli apartheid and genocide. They want the university to sever connections with donors Candida and Zak Gertler, whom they allege have ties to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As a result of the protest, the opening of German artist Galli's exhibition 'So-So-So,' originally scheduled for June 20, has been delayed. Despite some concessions made in May after previous protests, G4P continues to push for further changes. The Goldsmiths CCA expressed disappointment over the closure, noting that the protest disrupts its operations as a public gallery. Recent clarifications stated that Zak Gertler isn't a co-founder of Outset Contemporary Art Fund and that Outset has no links to Netanyahu.
