Goldschmied & Chiari's 'Secret Eyes Only' Opens in Bari and Polignano a Mare

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Milanese duo Goldschmied & Chiari inaugurates the project 'Il Tesoro della città delle donne vol.1' with the exhibition 'Secret eyes only' at Galleria Doppelgänger in Bari, dedicated to the late artist Chiara Fumai. The exhibition explores the relationship between documentation and forgery against the backdrop of the Cold War and the phrase 'Democracy is illusion.' A mirrored font conceptually frames the installation, which features hazy, livid traces of colored smoke bombs fired during a performance and captured in triptychs or isolated panels. These residues impose an altered perceptual approach to reality, akin to the manipulation of archival data that generates an ambiguous historical narrative subservient to power. The theme continues in 'Fumo negli occhi,' placed in Polignano a Mare at the Ex-Chiesetta, curated by Roberto Lacarbonara. This work pays homage to Houdini and the reality/illusion dichotomy, with politicians and intellectuals who actually disappeared during the Cold War printed on mirrors, confirming a practice that deceives the eye but denounces a truth.
