Gold Digger: 112 thermal blankets transform 17th-century Catalan convent into golden installation
At the A Cel Obert festival in Tortosa, Catalonia, the installation Gold Digger by designers Nicola Dario Baldassarre, Salvatore Dentamaro, Francesco Di Salvo, and Ilyass Erraklaouy covered the cloister of the 17th-century convent of Sant Jordi and Sant Domenec with 112 thermal blankets. The golden side faced the sky, the silver side the ground, playing with light and shadow. Visitors could look through holes in the blankets, emerging inside the work. A drone video captures the aerial view, with blankets suspended just over a meter above the ground, allowing light to filter through and enhance the convent's architecture. The festival has been held annually since 2014, using historic buildings to host contemporary works.
