Goethe-Institut's 2020 Latitude Festival and Brazilian Art Initiatives Address Environmental Crisis

The Goethe-Institut launched the Latitude 2020 festival online, featuring diverse artistic responses to Brazil's current socio-political and environmental context. Artist Nuno Ramos presented the multilingual work "A extinção é para sempre" (Extinction is Forever), which directly confronts the country's situation. In March, the exhibition "Ecos do Atlântico Sul" (Echoes of the South Atlantic) will begin an itinerant presentation at the Pivô space. The VI International Virtual Seminar ARTE!Brasileiros, titled "In defense of nature and culture – the art...", was organized with a focus on opposing devastation. This seminar continued the discussion on protecting both natural environments and cultural heritage. These initiatives collectively form a coordinated effort through digital and physical platforms to engage with pressing ecological and cultural preservation issues. The programming explicitly positions art as a tool for resistance against destruction.
