GO’C’s Ceramics Studio in Seattle Draws on Denesuline Heritage

architecture-design · 2026-05-07

In West Seattle, architecture practice GO’C has completed the Ceramics Studio, a Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit (DADU) for a maker whose work is rooted in her Denesuline heritage from Northern Saskatchewan. The studio features a cantilevered roof sheltering an outdoor kiln terrace, exposed rafters running from interior to exterior, and three large skylights that drop natural light onto the sculpting floor, loft, and kiln area. The design uses a material datum of white display walls below and honeyed timber ceiling above. The client worked alongside the contractor and enlisted friends and family to build on a tight budget. Since completion, the studio has become a neighborhood hub for classes, communal dinners, and guest stays. GO’C prioritized the client’s heritage and the physical requirements of ceramics, creating a space that functions as both a tool and a tribute.
