GM Denies Pausing Development of Next-Gen Electric Trucks and SUVs

General Motors has refuted claims regarding a halt in the development of its upcoming full-size electric trucks and SUVs. Reports from Automotive News and Crain's Detroit suggested that the program for the next generation of these vehicles is on an indefinite pause, citing unnamed sources. While the existing models—GMC Hummer EV, Chevy Silverado EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and GMC Sierra EV—will remain unaffected, the introduction of new versions anticipated for 2028 could be postponed until the following decade. GM has clarified to Car and Driver and Motor1.com that it has neither canceled nor delayed any electric trucks, emphasizing that EVs are a core focus. Nonetheless, the automaker has stepped back from its previous commitment to achieve full electrification by 2035 and is reportedly creating a platform for new gas and hybrid full-size trucks and SUVs.
