Gloria Pizzilli's 'Divinae' Calendar for Epson Celebrates Female Deities

publication · 2026-04-26

Epson has released its 2026 illustrated calendar, titled 'Divinae,' created by artist Gloria Pizzilli under the artistic direction of Gianluca Folì. The calendar features twelve illustrations, each dedicated to a female deity from diverse cultures: Guanyin (Mahayana Buddhist goddess of compassion), Pachamama (Quechua 'Mother Earth'), Venus, Mami Wata (African water deity), Aphrodite, Diana, Isis, and others. Pizzilli, known for her colorful, dreamlike, and sensual depictions of femininity, has previously worked for The New Yorker, The New York Times, L'Espresso, and Corriere della Sera. The project began in 2000 as a demonstration of digital photographic printing quality, later expanding into illustration. Folì, who contributed as an artist for the 2021 edition, became artistic director in 2022, shifting the calendar toward a curatorial approach. The 2026 edition aims to explore the plurality of the sacred feminine across cultures, breaking implicit cultural hierarchies. Pizzilli's illustrations intertwine deities with animals and natural elements in pastel tones, updating classical iconography for a contemporary audience. Folì describes the calendar as a hybrid editorial object between art, design, and communication, gaining counter-cultural value in a digital age.
