Glocal 89: Mexican Design Takes Milan Design Week 2026

The 89th edition of Glocal Design Magazine, titled 'Visionarias del espacio,' features 15 Mexican women architects and interior designers, with cover art by Prince Láuder and Jimena Estíbaliz. At Milan Design Week 2026, Mexican participation was distributed across multiple venues, united by a focus on everyday gestures, crafts, and memory. Maye Ruiz collaborated with chef Rosio Sanchez on 'Party at Your Place' for IKEA's 'Food for Thought' installation, a domestic room inspired by Guanajuato and the Bajío region. The Tecnológico de Monterrey's School of Architecture, Art and Design presented 'Dulcería Salone' at SaloneSatellite, a collection of 12 objects reinterpreting the piñata. Diego Manzano and Andrea Perales Covarrubias of Manos Manus, rooted in Oaxaca, showed pieces exploring fold and tension at SaloneSatellite. Marcelo Guajardo Dávila presented 'The Chairs We Heard' with Comune + Spazio IVY, translating sound into chairs influenced by metal and progressive rock. At Fuorisalone, Fernando Laposse presented 'Pane e Circo' within 'When Apricots Blossom,' centering bread in a structure inspired by the Chorsu bazaar, wooden furniture, and yurt modularity.
