Global Museum Boom: New Cultural Hubs Open from Cairo to Taipei in 2025
The cultural scene saw significant transformation in 2025 with several museum inaugurations. In Cairo, the Grand Egyptian Museum, crafted by Heneghan Peng Architects, made its debut. April witnessed the launch of Tadao Ando's Naoshima New Museum of Art in Japan, showcasing a collection of Asian contemporary art. Abu Dhabi's Zayed National Museum, designed by Foster + Partners, is set to open on December 3, featuring over 3,000 artifacts. In Saudi Arabia, construction commenced on the Asaan, Misk Heritage Museum, envisioned by Zaha Hadid Architects. Taiwan's Taichung Green Museumbrary will open on December 13. Fenix Rotterdam opened its doors on May 16 in Europe, while the Studio Museum of Harlem debuted in New York on November 15. Lina Ghotmeh was selected to design the Qatar Pavilion for the British Museum, which also announced a £375 million renovation initiative.
